Miss Amicus Launches her Kickstarter 'Spoiling You'

I wouldn't normally start an update for a project other than our Amicus project, but in this case, I shall make a rare exception for 'Spoiling You,' which is written and directed by our very own Hazel Court, our Miss Amicus... Megan Tremethick.

Watch it here!

Miss Amicus transforms into Miss Mutter... in the very creepy 'Spoiling You'

I featured in the pitch video and lent a hand, and after seeing how absolutely bonkers and brilliant it turned out, I knew that our wonderful Amicus community would want to see it and would hopefully lend their support to this remarkable young lady and beautiful old soul.

Inspired by a wild mixture of late 90s and early noughties J-Horror (think Audition, Kairo, Ringu, and even anime) as well as Gothic Horror (her character Miss Mutter creeps about in a dungeon at night...), it’s well... I'll let her describe the rest in her own words in her video, which you can watch at the link right here.

Link to Spoiling You.

I'm not sure what ASMR is, but it plays a part in testing this 40-something producer's pacemaker! Something... Perhaps something Miss Mutter uses to lure her victims?

AMICUS NEWS

So, the final components of the sets that form most of 'In the Grip of Terror' are just about complete, with the main fancy room we've been working on getting a fresh lick of paint next week. Right now, the guys are finishing up some ornate joinery around the skylight. It must be beautiful... oh yes... it must.

With a lick of paint, we'll be ready to shoot our first segment, 'Watcher by the Dead.' It will be filmed in the glorious round room and in a castle dungeon-type set, which looks ideal as the main venue for our horror tale. The underground room, where a character must test their sanity by spending the evening with a corpse... OR IS IT!

I would like to confirm some casting for you on this one! The popular Ambrose Bierce story shall see Dorian Todd performing as Mancher.

Here he is... in Meg's pitch video.

Dorian Todd (who was also featured in our original pitch video for 'In the Grip of Terror')

Dorian always flexes whenever he does a topless scene!

But he won't be alone... joining him is his friend Sam Barclay, who will be playing Rosser.

Here is Sam, looking very pleased and happy to be cast in the new Amicus Film!

Rest assured, these young men will be brushed up and trimmed to look immaculate and perfect for our anachronistic Amicus period setting.

The role of Dr. Helberson will be played by eminent Scottish theatre performer and veteran of all things (who was also featured in our original pitch video), Michael Daviot.

Michael Daviot, does look a little more dignified than his younger peers!

So, at the moment, we're looking at Amicus shoots taking place from the end of next month all the way to late October!

AMICUS PHOTO-SETS

Now, I am to blame for this because I keep pulling people away from the shooting dates to do other things. Rest assured, I shall be placing a priority on the sumptuous Gothic Ingrid Pitt photo sets featuring Miss Amicus and some other classic British beauties that may symbolize the golden era of classic British horror and Gothic sensuality!

So, we can expect those sets to be photographed and delivered by mid-month!

For the Glory of Amicus! AND MORE NEWS!

For the Glory of Amicus!

The team has been working like maniacs, and much of that work has involved dusting off feature films in post-production and fulfilling the rewards for our previous campaign, 'The Slave and the Sorcerer'. If only you could see the blisters on their fingers.

And, in the meantime, time permitting, we've thrown ourselves over the top, like some sort of indie-film Battle of the Somme, to complete our main set for 'In the Grip of Terror' — a stunning historic room that features in most segments.

The work goes beyond set filmmaking into the realms of refurbishment, equipping us with a historic interior space that will feature in many... many-many... many-many-many Amicus and Hex Studios feature films to come.

We're now finally at the stage where this space should be completed in the next two weeks! We've done the hard parts ourselves!

Building our own architrave, our own doors... from scratch. Oak... staining... polishing... brass fittings... dados... building our own skirting... ARGhhh.

And where are we at now?

Now, we have a plaster cornice being installed over the previous one, which is literally crumbling (bear in mind, this entire space was crumbling and rotten. We've fixed it all...). After that, we just have some minor bits of decorative joinery to finish.

Then... then... we get another guy to paint it. We've suffered enough, haha. So, once that's done, we'll have our primary set completed and ready to go for the first segment. Other segments that utilise this space will often see it get a paint job, transforming it from a gents' club into another space (such as a late 60s hospital ward).

Ironically, this is actually the hardest part of this production, but one of the most worthwhile. It will give us the untethered access we need to shoot our movie in a great-looking space and, of course, a resource that we'll have for as long as we keep making movies! Just imagine, how we could use it for future films too... films similar to 'The Skull' etc!

You can keep up to date with almost daily updates on our FaceBook Group here!

Miss Amicus is making a movie!

Our very own horror Vivian Leigh, Cornish Hazel Court, Miss Amicus Megan Tremethick, is producing our first horror feature film called 'Spoiling You,' which launches on Kickstarter next week. NEXT WEEK!

She's been a faithful and loyal ally to our revival of Amicus Productions, and her film, which is a startling blend of Gothic and J-Horror, promises to provide a spine-tingling experience with a disturbing air of intensity.

Please join me in supporting Megan Tremethick by hitting the link to visit her campaign and smack that 'get notified' button! It's worth it for all of us to support talented young ladies who adore Gothic Horror and classic British horror cinema!

Can we get her passed 500 followers!

A Video Update and a Stupendous Endorsement!

Huzzah! An Update in Video form! How Glorious!

So, in case you're not watching the video, this is the snail mail version! Which is this... everyone is working very hard on the sets right now, and we're hoping to begin shooting the first segment in about 4 - 6 weeks. I say hoping, but in reality, WE WILL BE. Otherwise, I'll be completing the last take of our film, from a retirement home, shouting angrily at children playing on the grass outside. Probably, I'd take aim at them with my empty bourbon glasses.

In fact, do I do that now? Oh God... Oh Jesus Christ!

Don't forget folks, you can get almost daily updates on the progress of our film by joining our Facebook Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/amicusproductions/

Things like this, but we're actually further along now than this photo might suggest. We've laid down 3,500 tiles and completed lots of beautiful building work. As the video suggests, this is an investment not just for 'In the Grip of Terror' but for all our Amicus Productions horror films to come! Check the Facebook group and video for more pictures of our progress! Right now, we're about a week or two away from painting the finished room.

Miss Amicus is making her first movie - let's help her!

As I mentioned in the video, Miss Amicus (a.k.a. Cornish beauty Megan Tremethick) is making her first-ever horror feature film. She has produced shorts before and has always been a loyal and faithful servant to Amicus and Hex.

Meg's started a 'Spoiling You' a Kickstarter Pre-Launch campaign and I sincerely hope, that everyone visits the link and hits the get notified button! I whole heartedly endorse this project! Link Right Here.

But... what is Spoiling You

'Spoiling You' is an intense psychological horror film that draws inspiration from the classic era of J-Horror, with films such as Audition, Suicide Club, and Kairo. Megan plays a shy, lonely girl whose anime cosplay-inspired alter-ego 'Miss Mutter' runs a sensual ASMR YouTube channel.

It goes without saying that there is a little more to 'Miss Mutter' than meets the eye. When she discovers her number one fan, she invites him over for a private session...

There, she reveals a terrifying secret that even made the hairs on my neck stand on end when I read the script! You can expect a film that swings between the wild and the deadly serious, always keeping you on your toes!

Update Time!

Firstly, my goodness, how time flies. At the moment, the team is building the set for 'A Watcher by the Dead' and for our 'Cool Air' inspired segment. We've integrated this set design as a means of refurbishing a space we're working in so that it can also protect and preserve a historic site that we're able to use to produce more Amicus films, more Hex films... more and more.

So, to keep up-to-date with almost daily updates, I would like to invite folks (for the BTS treatment) to join us over in this group on Facebook, or you can follow me on Twitter/X.

The best place to get updates is in the Facebook Group. And, if you haven't checked it out yet, you'll find plenty of updates about our horror filmmaking as well as our set-building efforts.

The Sets

The main set we've been focusing on is a large round room. It's part of a 19th-century building, and originally we had painted it red, envisioning it serving as a sort of gentleman's club for the start of 'A Watcher by the Dead'. However, it was in a poor state, with the wood-chip on the walls having suffered from damp and, well, ugh.

We knew we'd have to roll up our sleeves, and in doing so, create not just a set for the Amicus segment but a space that we could use in our future horror movies as well.

Firstly, the wallpaper and ceiling began to peel as a result of damp. :( It was falling apart.
So, we scraped off the wall paper (all the way back to the 1930 backing paper) but then the floor started to er... so we re-enforced the floor!
Then part of the ceiling plaster collapsed, revealing the old wooden lathes. We had to fix that, (and the source of water damp) on the roof, and replace it!
And, we found the original fireplace, because of course... what sort of Amicus Film wouldn't have a scene where a character leands on a mighty wooden mantel!
And what will go in that fireplace? But... this original antique mantel, and iron insert. Which, intriguingly matched the one that was there originally, before it was removed and bricked up 80 years ago!
Meanwhile, tomorrow our floor tile design is laid out. The colours are exaggerated here, but they will resemble a classic  Victorian Minton tile style pattern!

Huge amounts of set work and refurbishment have been undertaken at a location that serves as a pivotal setting for both segments in our Amicus film. Since then, we've also re-plastered the room—a no small feat—and have repaired the cornicing. And... as soon as the flooring is installed, we'll be routing oak wood (or oak veneer MDF) into dado rails, architrave, and doors. All of which will be stained and varnished, ensuring that the finished room resembles a time capsule from the past. Perfect for our film!

But, what about filming?

Of course, we're keen to get started on our movie too, and we've scheduled production for the first segment to begin in the last week of April. That, hopefully, is when I'll shout the immortal words... BUGGER! No, I mean 'action!'

Rest assured, I'll be sharing somewhat embarrassing BTS stills of me covered in biscuits, attempting to direct far more talented artists than myself to perform chilling and mysterious deeds for the glory of Amicus.

Right now, rest assured that we're working tirelessly every day, not only on Amicus but also on our other projects. We're also ensuring that our work for Amicus is both long-term and sustainable, creating not just the prerequisites for our movie but also the necessary infrastructure to make Amicus a formidable presence in the genre for years to come."

What, about those Saucy Amicus Photo-Sets!

Ah, well, unfortunately, Miss Amicus has stepped down. Instead, I've found myself hoisting up my suspenders and capturing my own antics on a Nokia 1, darting through the forest in a sheer nightie! It's a sight to behold!

Well... er... no, not exactly. In truth, we've been so engrossed in all the film preparations that time simply got away from us. But rest assured, this week and next, we'll be dedicating ourselves to producing our stunning photography sets in collaboration with the lovely Miss Amicus, Megan Tremethick.

My next update will arrive sooner than this one did – my apologies for the wait. But, once again, rest assured that we're putting in the hard graft every day, and you can always reach me directly on Facebook too.
